Story & Lore

This idle game takes place in a dystopian world where your golems must scavenge for parts to survive, and players act as Golemancers who control them.

There stands a great Wall at History’s beginning. It seems as if we all awoke at once, at a point some 480 Orbits ago. The land, blighted and sunblasted in all directions. Our bodies, caked and crusted. Metallic, rusty, mechanical. Old structures can be found, suggesting that there was indeed a Time before History. The First Ones roamed, wandered, died slowly and in confusion. Some of them, however, chanced upon working pieces of, of—something.

Something that once operated beyond History’s Wall. It goes by many names, but most of us just call them Parts. With access to Parts, the Second Ones were able to emerge, creating a system of despondent survival in what officially became our Ashen Expanse.

Then, from the depths below, entombed in catacombs of seized gears and rotten chains, arose the minions. They responded to a particular accumulation of Parts—which today we fashion into a portable staff. Built both of steel and stone, the Second Ones dubbed the minions Golems, and those who could build and control them: Golemancers.

We recognize the Third Age of Golemancy as starting when the first Shard was unearthed. It destroyed the golems and Golemancer that uncovered it in a flash of sizzling static. But we soon learned how to contain the chaotic and puzzling electromagnetic fields surrounding these ancient materials. The Origin Shard allowed us to build a blueprint to find more. And as we did, the Parts began to make more sense, combine into better tools, and in turn: allowed us to find more Shards.

The aimless plight of the First Ones is long behind us, as is the simple survival life of the Second Ones. We—the Golemancers of the Third Age—stand at the brink of a true society now. Guilds and communities are fast rising to prominence. New technology, paths to prosperity, and tools of war spring up out of the Ashen Expanse on a daily basis.

Some say the Shards will lead us over History’s Wall. Others fear we will suffer the same fate of whatever caused our initial slumber. And still others care not of either, and only seek to enrich and empower their own factions.

When you fashion your Staff, Initiate—which path will you trek?
